A Pastor, not a Poet!

Last night at dinner, my parents and I had a good laugh over a silly poem!

Pills on the table, pills on the floor,
No need to worry, for there’s plenty pills more!
Pills in my hand, pills in my mouth,
If I don’t swallow all these pills,
my health will head south!
Pills in the bottle, pills on my lap,
If I can’t find them all, I’ll just take a nap.

It is a blessing to be able to laugh but failing health and the daily dance with medications and therapies is all too real. It is easy to feel overwhelmed when the aches and pains and pills seem to multiply faster than we can manage. Yet, beneath the humor lies a deeper truth, one that Easter boldly proclaims: for the believer in Christ, failing health and even death hold no ultimate fear.

The message of Easter is Christ’s triumph over the grave. Paul writes about it in 1 Corinthians 15:55 (CSB), “Where, death, is your victory? Where, death, is your sting?” Jesus’ resurrection assures us that what seems like the end of the road is our doorway forwards. Our bodies will fail, the pills will pile up, but our hope rests in the One who conquered death itself. Because of Jesus’ victory over death, we can see each part of life through the lens of eternity.

Romans 8:38-39 (CSB) offers warm encouragement: “For I am persuaded that neither death nor life… nor any other created thing will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Easter reminds us that God’s love is stronger than our frailties. When health falters, when the pills bring no relief, we are still held by a Savior who faced death—and won.

So, take heart, friends! Scattered pills and occasional naps do not define us - Christ does! The message of Easter whispers in the heart of every believer: you are not a prisoner to decay. Your future is secure, your fears disarmed. In Him, we find peace to face today and joy for the forever ahead. May this truth lift our spirits — death has no sting, and Love has the final word!

In His Joy this Easter season
